After two months of working, the prototype version of Yani & Derek is finally done! I can finally reward myself with another chocolate bar!

But first, what is Yani & Derek?

Yani & Derek is a short otome game where you play as Yani and help her navigate her new relationship with Derek after she accidentally accepted his confession.

This was originally a 4-koma posted in Webtoon when I was in my teens. It has now been deleted... I think. I don't remember. It's older than Project: Comiket, so you can taken a guess on how well I remember the original story. Hahaha.

It started as a funny and lighthearted take on having a yandere boyfriend, but my mind loves convoluted storyline so it got more complicated to the point I can't connect the dots anymore, so I lost the motivation to keep on writing.

I tried another attempt on rewriting it when I wanted to focus on making an otome game, but it ended up turning into a convoluted science experiment with a different main character and multiple routes, so you can already guess why I stopped once again.

And now that I'm back, I decided to keep the original concept while incorporating some ideas from the second version to keep a good balance of creepiness and lightheartedness.

Of course, there's still things I need to improve like adding more personality on the GUI, rendering the illustrations, and fixing my script that is filled with people bonding over food. I don't know why, but the first thing that comes to my mind whenever I need two people to bond is food. I might need to improve my real socializing skills if I want to write better stories. Hahaha.

And now that I am done with the prototype, what's next?

I have to be honest, unlike Project: Comiket, I don't have a clear plan on where this will go beyond the prototype. I do have an idea on what I want to convey, but I am unsure on how to present it at the moment. So for now, I will take a break from this project and move to another one, but  I will come back if enough people are interested for more.
